Protecting the Earth and its People Providing cotton that brings smiles.

It is a known fact that cotton cultivation tops of the world’s list of crops for its highest usage of agricultural chemicals.

These chemicals pollute our Earth and damage the health of those who work with these chemicals regularly.

Awareness for the above has led to the establishment of Nippon Organic Cotton Marketing Organization (NOC) in 1993, with the aim of propagating organic cotton that is cultivated without the use of chemical fertilisers and agricultural chemicals.

Organic Agriculture

Protecting the Earth/Protecting the People

The cultivation of organic cotton involves no usage of agricultural chemicals typically used on cotton crops, such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicide.

Our certified organic cotton is cultivated using traditional techniques that use organic fertilizers (compost) and useful insects to eliminate harmful pests.

These methods protect not just the health of those who work to give life to the microorganisms in the soil, but also the surrounding environment and the safety of its residents and farmers.

The increasingly popular use of genetically modified seeds has been prohibited for organic cotton as it goes against fundamental principles of organic cultivation. Organic cotton is the Earth’s most sustainable fiber material.

Organic Processing

Protecting the Waters/Protecting the Atmosphere

The textile industry has been known to be a source of pollution to water bodies such as rivers, lakes and the sea.
For the sake of fashion and functional purposes, bleaching and dyeing processes involve multiple rounds of chemical treatment that result in waste water pollution.

Fair trade/Support

Protecting the farmer and worker in the factory

The majority of the world’s cotton producers are located in economically poor regions.
Our relief project involves converting these areas to organic production and playing a role as active purchasers. (Fair trade)
It is our aim to support and alleviate poverty of those who we share our time on Earth with.

●Purchasing at premium prices (above regular market rates for cotton)
●Long-term purchasing contract
●Careful guidance on organic agriculture
●Provision of medical services (On a large bus -‘Mobile Hospital’)
●Provision of education in schools for children
●Construction of drinking water wells, provision of biogas equipment, etc.

Colored Cotton (Brown, Green)

Cotton is commonly recognised to be white, but the fact that its original variety was brown dates back to a few thousand years ago.
Whiter variations of cotton were favored for dyeing purposes, which led to the eventual abandonment and disappearance of brown cotton.
From getting to be known organic cotton, people hope to revive environmental friendliness and appreciation for undyed cotton.
Brown cotton’s natural ultraviolet protecting properties make it a widely used material in shirts, gloves, hats and umbrellas, etc.

Chemical Allergy, Chemical Sensitivity

Our body is affected by even very slight chemicals.
Sometimes cause atopic allergies, chemical sensitivities by people.
Chemicals can hinder our everyday life, and appears as skin diseases, headaches, joint pains, listlessness and so on.
These symptoms are often caused by chemical substances from newly constructed buildings or nearby factories, or by agricultural chemicals that have been sprayed onto fields and forests.

Efforts to improve sufferer health should be done, as much as possible, away from the influence of the above mentioned chemicals.
Clothing items, bedding and interior goods made with NOC organic cotton have been widely used to the benefit of patients.
Organic cotton products are also a staple in many medical facilities specialising in allergy treatment.
Although NOC cotton products have undergone minimal chemical treatment due to their organic production, they have unexpected links to contributions to the medical field. They have proven to be the safest choice for our healthy users, and are popular options for baby and childcare supplies.

Organic Authorization

At NOC, we issue certified labels to products that use 100% certified organic cotton and comply with environmental and health safety regulations. Our activities involves regular inspections on the traceability of the manufacturing process - from raw cotton to the final product, as well as on the products themselves. This also includes regular safekeeping of inspection documents. We currently issue 2 certification labels.

Certified Organic Labels

NOC Cotton Label

Products issued with this label have undergone processing that both maximises keep of cotton’s natural touch and adheres to processing standards. Chemical treatments such as bleaching and dyeing have not been carried out on these products.

3. Manufacturing processes are carried out in consideration of minimising environmental pollution and
protecting the health of users.

NOC Cotton Standards

1. 100% use of organically cultivated cotton that has been certified by a third party certification body.
Conventional cotton is never used under any circumstances.

2. Contains no chemical synthetic fibres. Under circumstances where elasticity is required in the end product
for functional purposes(e.g. socks and undergarments), mixing in of spun yarn is allowed at a maximum of
15%.All contents are to be fully disclosed.Blends of various natural fibres are also allowed at a maximum of
40% if all materials used are certified organic. (e.g. wool, silk, hemp, etc.)

3. Products have not undergone chemical processing to add characteristics beyond cotton’s natural qualities.  (Such include bleaching, adding fluorescent pigments, chemical dyeing, discharge printing, resisting printing,  shrink-proofing, softening, etc.)
Use of natural dyes such as plant dyes are allowed if they have been tested to be safe.

4. Chemically synthesized auxiliary agents that are crucial to the manufacturing process are always kept to the
minimum.(e.g. sizing agents like wax and starch) Finished products are washed thoroughly of all residue.

5. All materials and components used besides organic cotton are limited to 10% the weight of the product.
All contents are to be fully disclosed. (e.g. padding, inner lining, embroidery, appliques, etc.)

6. Attached components such as cords, elastic bands, tapes, labels, buttons, fasteners and so on are made with
natural materials where possible to aid with biodegradability.

7. Sewing threads used are limited to organic cotton where possible. When used in cases where greater durability
is required, usage of synthetic fibre is kept to the minimum in topical areas.
Sewing threads that have not been bleached or given fluorescent pigment is used as much as possible.

8. Organic cotton is used in the stuffing of toys as much as possible.Safety certified synthetic fibres
(e.g. polyester, etc.) are allowed in circumstances where they are necessary for design purposes;however this is
limited to an amount weighing no more than 500g per toy.
To improve biodegradability, effort is also made in switching to natural fibres where possible.
(e.g. kapok, corn     fibre, bamboo fibre, etc.)

9. Highly safe inks are used for printing on goods such as T-shirts and bags.Prints are allowed to have a
maximum surface area of 10% of the entire item. However, area of print is not restricted if inks used are
 safety certified and natural.

10. Chemical detergents are not used during washing processes for environmental and health safety reasons.
(Natural soaps, electrolyzed water and bio cleaning products are recommended.)
